Women’s Refuge Safehouse Welcome Videos
Commissioned by Mohawk Media for Women’s Refuge, this animated welcome video was designed to provide a warm, reassuring introduction for children arriving at a safe house with their mothers. The goal was to help kids aged 8 to 12 years old feel at ease, understand the purpose of Refuge, and introduce key concepts they would encounter during their stay.
At Meeka Digital, I was responsible for the entire visual production process, including character design, storyboarding, illustration, and final animation. The animation follows two superhero kids and their mum, who crash-land at the Refuge—a place where they can rest and recharge their superpowers. Inspired by the style of modern children’s TV shows, the visuals are bold, engaging, and relatable, reflecting the diversity and experiences of the children staying at the Refuge.
The final animation was produced in both English and Te Reo Māori, using young bilingual voices to enhance accessibility. Additionally, the project included comic strip posters, booklets, and coloring-in sheets, providing children with interactive materials to help them feel welcome and empowered in their new environment.
